You may be wondering where I got this phrase from. I got it from Internet Gurus’, from the email course or heard it from seminars?
None of the above unfortunately! it is from my own hard experience in blogging. I started blogging seriously in April when I took a training course in Blogging for Money. Over the 3 days course, I learn what blogging is about and how to blog for money. Besides blogging theory, I was taught to do several other essential things in order to make money online using blog. So I learnt the followings:- |
1) Buy a domain name
2) Get a hosting company
3) Installed the wordpress
4) configure the wordpress
5) did market research
6) Select my niche
7) wrote my first article and posted it
Wait for my blog to be hosted
Doing all the above took me mere 1 day. Then I published my blog and anxiously wait for google to index. Hooray, I found my blog on 3rd day when I did a google search on my blog url http://swotanalysistemplate.com
Wow ! I could not believed my blog could be found in mere 3 days. That gave me great encouragement so I spend much time to write more article and posted them. I did google search with keyword with the following keywords:
- swot analysis template
- swot analysis example
- swot analysis matrix
No sign of my blog on google search for several days. Then I spotted something familiar on page#1 on the seventh days when I search for keyword “:swot analysis template”. Wow! that was my blog! I could not believed my eyes until I took a closer look. yeess, it was my blog right before my eyes. it was on google page #1 somewhere at the bottom of t he page 1. I am sure you appreciate my joy if you were me!
But I could not find my blog for the other two keywords. So, I wrote more articles with such keywords and posted it. At the same time, I submit slightly modified articles to ezinearticles.com Another pleasant surprise to me, my articles submitted to ezinearticles.com appeared on google page# 1 after 2 days. Fantastic, I told myself. Later only I realised that it was the high PR on the article directory that bring up my blog to page#1. Then I realised of the power of article directories. There on, I keep submitting articles to article directories as well as posted new articles on my blog. I started to note my blog appeared on google page#1, 2 and 3 with all the three keywords
Then I noted something which is was not so happy about. The page position remain unchanged for several weeks and the traffic is not heavy. Then I recalled there are more to be done to my blog to drive traffic. So I used the following strategies to drive traffic to my blog:-
1) DO SEO and SEM ( what on earth are these jargons? )
2) wrote and submit articles to web 2.0 sites
Believed me, that was not an esy tasks, submitting our blog to web 2.0 sites manually takes a lot a patient and hard work. I hope there is software replacing this manual work. Besides all these essentials for blogging, I did more researches how to drive traffic. Then I found those link exchange programs and I picked one which has high PR itself and started to managed the links exchange because I want to make sure only relevant sites are exchanged. I also did email marketing as well as promote my blog on facebook, tweeter, stumbleupon, hubpages etc etc you name it, I have it. ( Is there any more ?? )
Thanks goodness, the above hard work seems to yield positive results. The traffic has improved from 909 on the first in May09 to 4635 unique visitors in Aug09. 15 days into Sept09, the traffic has recorded 3110 unique visitors. I think all that I did started to yield results but I am not happy.
Why ? My course mate who build a blog do not belongs to any niche has PR=4 and traffic exceed 10,000 in Aug09. I could not find his blog using any keyword but the blog received such a fantastic results compared to mine. His content is not focus and certainly could not be categorised into any niche. Yet, his result is better.
So, I was lost for a moment! Is Content the KING ? I wondered! is TRAFFIC bring in the visitors or Content does? You make the judgement because I have not idea what should it be !!!

Comments OffIs your Internet Business at Risk? Sure it is . It can liklely subject to several types of risks such as below:-
1. Hosting company shut down your website or blog or close down
2. Your files and data are corrupted by example computer virus
3. You accidentally deletes a file
4. Your computer harddisk crashed or corrupted
5. You messed up one of your configuration file
6. many many more
Know anyone of these inccidence may happened, what can you do to saftguard your internet business? It far as data is concerned, it is alwasy recommended to back up yoru data and files frequently. The frequency depends on how frequent you update your website of blog and Also depends on how much time you are willing to spend to redo whatever lost.
The above are major events to your website or blog. What if you lost a file or a picture etc? How do you find t ?
Have you ever heard some gurus said Content is King?
There are also Internet gurus emphasied on TRAFFIC ! What are the difference? If there are closely related, which one come first? I am sure many Internet newbies have similar problem to differential the two. Let me illustrate the two based on my personal encounteres:
The Content!
Yes, content is the most important elements in a website or a blog. it provides the reason for a vistor to drop by your website or blog. You want to provide as much and as rich information as possible for your visitors so that they find it worth while visiting your website or blog. For some, they may bookamark your site to visit again or boradcast to their friends. Depending on your preference or niche, your content must aligned with what your visitors want to search. if you can align with them, then you have a valuable vistior whom can turn into your fee paid customers.
On the other hand, if your contents are riched but scattered around your website of blog, then it will be difficult for your visitors to search for their reasons for their visits. Having said that, there are merits and perhaps advantage that if your contents are very broad and not focused, it may attrract diffirent category of visitors. To quote a pactical case studies:-
Case Study 1 – Focused Niche Content
I have set up my SWOT Analysis blog in May09 and since then, it has ranked google page#1 with unique vistors of 909 in the first month and raised to 4635 in Aug09. This blog has unique contents on SWOT Analysis which is a tools for Stragic Planning, I receive several good feedback about the blog and content too. My mentor told me that the traffic I received was considered good given the blog was only 4 months old. Google has given me a PR=1 and Alexa raning ,900,000 I was told this ranking was considered good as most new log has double digit million and PR=0 For the month of August09, I received $45 income for advertisement for my SWOT Analysis blog. It was great achievement, I thought becasue many of my friends got close to zero for their advertisement on their blog.
In this is case study, I must confessed that the content in the blog is very original and unique. It talked about practical application of a Strategic Planning Tools – SWOT Analysis. Because of this niche content are related to corporate management, my of my visitors are mostly came from the corporate environment. As such, my number of of unique are normally dropped by about 30% during week ends.
Case Study 2 – Non-focused Niche Content
My coursemate has a blog named twcl99.om published 3 months earlier than me. You may note that his domain name does not has keyword in it. His content update was very active though, almost 2 posts per day and talked about anything and everything about Internet Business. His mentor told him to avoid scattered topics but he could not help it because this is what he was capable of posting. Besides frequent update of posts, he spent much time to optimise his blog with SEO and SEM. His traffic was just above mind for until end of August09 when his unique visitors shot up two fold to over 10,000 unique visitors for the month of August 09 and he got advertisement income of $65 for the same month. I must point out that I could not find his blog on google using keyword related to his content, yet his blog received more than 10,000 for August09. His income from advertisement was almost 40% more than may SWOT Analysis blog.
In conclusion, I believed content is king to an extend that Search Engines like to crawl it. But the type of visitors will depend on the type of the contents. If the niche is very focused, then it is likely that it attracts your targetted visitors. On the other hand, if you content is non-focused, then still can attract visitors but you do not know who they are. Then the question: Is it important to know who your vistors are?
